From Battle to Blessings - Ganesha's Sacred Journey

The mythological story of why Lord Ganesha is worshipped first is a beloved tale in Hinduism. According to legend, Goddess Parvati, the divine consort of Lord Shiva, created Lord Ganesha out of sandalwood paste and breathed life into him while Lord Shiva was away. She assigned Ganesha the task of guarding her privacy as she bathed.

When Lord Shiva returned home, he found a young boy (Ganesha) preventing him from entering his own abode. Unaware of Ganesha's true identity, Shiva's anger flared, leading to a fierce battle in which Shiva's mighty forces, including his army of demons, attacked Ganesha. However, Ganesha, created by Parvati's divine energy, proved invincible and defeated them all. Recognizing Ganesha's extraordinary strength and divine essence, the gods intervened and informed Lord Shiva of Ganesha's true origin. Shiva, realizing his mistake, embraced Ganesha and brought him back to life. To make amends and honor Ganesha's exceptional qualities, Lord Shiva declared that henceforth, Ganesha would be worshipped before all other gods in any auspicious ceremony or endeavor. This story teaches the importance of humility, family values, and recognizing the divine essence in every being. Consequently, Lord Ganesha is worshipped first to seek his blessings for success and the removal of obstacles.
